Marija Jurić Zagorka

Marija Jurić Zagorka, born in Vrbovec in 1873, was the first Croatian professional journalist and the most read Croatian writer. She fought for women’s rights, against social discrimination and Hungarianization and Germanization. Except the fact that this great writer loved to write, she also loved sitting with her friends in the Palace Hotel’s Café, sipping coffee and eating delicious cakes. Our palace is one of twenty places where Zagorka most often liked to spend her time. If you would like to take a closer look at the life of this brave woman, you can do it thanks to Slavica Jakobović-Fribec’s guide called “Zagorka’s Trace Through Zagreb”.
