One of the biggest chess events – the renewed chess Tournament of Peace gathered the world’s biggest chess names in the historic palace in the city center.

The historical Chess Tournament of Peace, reopened its doors after 33 years, from 12th to 23rd November 2018 and again turned its attention to an interesting, and often forgotten, sport – chess.

The first Tournament of Peace was held in 1965, organized by the Zagreb chess representatives and the Zagreb chess players, and created the tradition in international chess.
Another, more famous, chess Tournament of Peace was held in 1970 in Zagreb and Rovinj, where the famous Robert “Bobby” Fischer, who was also one of the celebrities who stayed at Palace Hotel Zagreb, won. The third tournament was held in 1975, the last held in 1985.

After a long pause, the Zagreb Chess Federation, in cooperation with the city of Zagreb and the Croatian Chess Federation, organized this significant sporting event at Palace Hotel Zagreb.

There are 12 chess players in the tournament and the half of them are Croatian competitors – Ivan Šarić, Hrvoje Stević, Zdenko Kožul, Mladen Palac, Robert Zelčić and Zoran Jovanović.
In addition to our chess grandmasters, there are some of the best international chess players such as Vasilij Ivančuk, Ivan Cheparinov, Etienne Bacrot, etc.

We wish the best luck to all players at this year’s Tournament of Peace, and for more information about players, game results and more generally about the tournament you can find on the official tournament website.
